Description
Overview
The Type 950XP Explosion-Proof I/P Transducer converts a 4-20 mA electrical current signal into a directly proportional pneumatic output pressure. Its closed-loop pressure feedback system continuously measures the output and automatically corrects deviations to provide highly accurate, stable pressure control for actuated valves and other pneumatic final control elements.
An integral volume booster provides flow capacity up to 12 scfm, supporting fast response in critical applications and sufficient output to operate larger valves and actuators. The compact unit is position-insensitive, vibration-resistant, and designed with accessible pneumatic ports and external zero and span adjustments for straightforward installation and calibration.
The Type 950XP is housed in a NEMA 4X/IP65 explosion-proof enclosure and is available with FM, CSA, and ATEX hazardous-area approvals. When ordered with the natural gas option, the transducer is suitable for sweet natural gas or methane service and includes a tapped exhaust and factory-sealed conduit assembly.

The Type 950XP uses a piezoelectric actuator, pilot nozzle, pressure sensor, and integral volume booster to deliver self-correcting pneumatic output. This closed-loop design minimizes changes caused by vibration, mounting orientation, temperature, and supply pressure.
How to Select the Right Configuration
Selecting the correct Type 950XP configuration depends on the required output range, operating mode, process media, hazardous-area approval, exhaust requirements, mounting method, and supply pressure.
- Select the 3-15 psig range for standard valve actuator and positioner applications.
- Select the 3-27 psig or 6-30 psig range when a wider or higher pneumatic signal is required.
- Select the 0-33 psig range for zero-based pressure control.
- Choose the field-selectable option when one unit must support 3-15, 3-27, or 6-30 psig output.
- Choose direct acting when increasing input current should increase output pressure.
- Choose reverse acting when increasing input current should decrease output pressure.
- Use split ranging when one 4-20 mA signal must operate multiple control devices over separate input segments.
- Select the E option for approved sweet natural gas or methane service.
- Select the T option when exhaust air or gas must be captured through a 1/8″ NPT connection.
- Select the K option when ATEX approval is required.
- Verify that supply pressure is at least 5 psig above the maximum required output.
- Add the optional pipe-mounting kit for installation on 1.5″ or 2″ pipe.
- Avoid extended electrical input without supply pressure, as this may damage the unit.
