Description

Overview

The Type 870 Miniature Potable Water Pressure Regulator is a compact, economical regulator designed to provide accurate downstream pressure control in drinkable water systems. Developed specifically for OEM equipment and space-constrained installations, the Type 870 combines reliable performance with lightweight construction and flexible connection options.

Its highly sensitive diaphragm-operated design helps eliminate the sticking problems that can occur with piston-style regulators. A molded rubber supply valve supports accurate regulation and helps minimize leakage, providing consistent pressure control under changing flow conditions.

Materials in contact with water are approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for potable water service. Food-grade elastomers, lead-free brass components, and an NSF electrodeposited chromium-plated zinc body make the Type 870 well suited for drinking water equipment, dispensing systems, and other applications requiring potable water compatibility.

How to Select the Right Configuration

Selecting the proper Type 870 configuration depends on connection type, required outlet pressure, flow demand, mounting method, and potable water system requirements.

  • Select 1/8″ NPT porting for compact North American potable water installations.
  • Select 1/4″ NPT porting when a larger connection is preferred.
  • Select 1/8″ BSP or 1/4″ BSP porting for systems using British Standard Pipe connections.
  • Choose the 0-5 psig range for very low-pressure water control.
  • Choose the 0-15 psig range for low-pressure dispensing and drinking water equipment.
  • Choose the 0-30 psig range for general potable water regulation.
  • Confirm that the 2.2 gal/min flow capacity meets the application requirement.
  • Use the Type 870 where a regulator specifically designed for potable water is required.
  • Provide separate downstream pressure relief when required by the system design.
  • Add the mounting bracket for side mounting to a machine frame or support surface.
  • Add the panel nut when the regulator will be mounted through a control panel.
  • Use the Type 860 instead for general industrial water applications that do not require potable water materials.
