Description

Overview

The Type 7250BP Precision Signal Operated Back Pressure Regulator is a high-flow, 1:1 signal-to-output regulator designed for pneumatic overpressure protection and precision flow control. It is normally closed and remains closed until inlet pressure exceeds the applied signal pressure.

When upstream pressure rises above the signal pressure, the valve opens and allows air to flow until upstream pressure falls below the setpoint. This operating principle enables the Type 7250BP to protect downstream pneumatic components from excessive pressure buildup while maintaining accurate, repeatable control.

The Type 7250BP can also function as a flow controller. Varying the signal pressure with a manual regulator or I/P transducer increases or decreases the amount of air permitted to flow from upstream to downstream. A large relief valve provides flow capacity up to 375 scfm, while an isolated control chamber helps prevent hunting and vibration during changing flow conditions.

Key Features

Flow capacity varies with port size and pressure conditions. The 3/4″ NPT configuration provides the highest Cv, while the 1/4″ NPT configuration supports more compact installations.

How to Select the Right Configuration

Selecting the correct Type 7250BP configuration depends on the required flow capacity, port size, signal source, temperature range, wetted materials, mounting method, and hazardous-area requirements.

  • Select 1/4″ NPT porting for compact installations and lower flow requirements.
  • Select 1/2″ or 3/4″ NPT porting when higher relief or process flow is required.
  • Use a manual pressure regulator when a fixed or manually adjustable pneumatic signal is preferred.
  • Use an I/P transducer when the signal pressure must vary in response to an electrical control signal.
  • Use the Type 7250BP for overpressure protection when the valve should open only after inlet pressure exceeds the signal pressure.
  • Use it as a flow controller when varying the signal pressure is required to modulate downstream airflow.
  • Choose the low-temperature option for installations operating down to -62°F (-52°C).
  • Choose the expanded-temperature EPDM option for applications operating up to 284°F (140°C).
  • Select stainless steel trim when additional corrosion resistance is required.
  • Select the ATEX option for installations requiring ATEX 2014/34/EU compliance.
  • Add the mounting bracket for side mounting.
  • Add the appropriately sized exhaust screen or muffler fitting when exhaust protection or noise reduction is needed.

Applications

The Type 7250BP is designed for pneumatic systems that require high relief capacity, remote signal control, precise overpressure protection, or variable flow control.

  • High-flow pneumatic overpressure protection
  • Compressor and receiver systems
  • Emergency shut-off valve triggering
  • Precision pneumatic flow control
  • I/P transducer-controlled systems
  • Manual pneumatic control systems
  • Instrument air systems
  • Industrial process control
  • Test stands and calibration equipment
  • OEM pneumatic systems
  • Remote pressure-control applications

In an overpressure protection application, the Type 7250BP remains closed until inlet pressure exceeds the applied signal. In a flow-control application, changing the signal pressure modulates the valve opening and controls airflow to the downstream process.

FAQs

What is the Type 7250BP signal operated back pressure regulator used for?

The Type 7250BP is used for high-flow pneumatic overpressure protection and precision flow control. It opens when inlet pressure exceeds the applied signal pressure.

How does the 1:1 signal-to-output ratio work?

The regulator compares inlet pressure with the applied pneumatic signal. When inlet pressure exceeds the signal pressure, the valve opens and allows air to flow until inlet pressure falls below the signal pressure.

Is the Type 7250BP normally open or normally closed?

The Type 7250BP is normally closed and remains closed until inlet pressure exceeds the applied signal pressure.

Can the Type 7250BP be used as a flow controller?

Yes. Varying the signal pressure with a manual regulator or I/P transducer changes the valve opening and controls the amount of air flowing from upstream to downstream.

What is the maximum flow capacity?

The Type 7250BP can flow up to 375 scfm, depending on port size, signal pressure, and system pressure.

What are the maximum system and signal pressures?
