Description
Overview
The Type 6200 High Flow Capacity Volume Booster is a 1:1 signal-to-output pneumatic relay designed for applications requiring high forward flow and exhaust capacity. Constructed with a rugged 316 stainless steel housing and stainless steel internal components, the Type 6200 is well suited for demanding control valve applications where rapid actuator response and corrosion-resistant construction are required.
Typically installed to increase the throttling speed of large-volume valve actuators, the Type 6200 is suitable for both diaphragm and piston actuators. A fixed deadband and integral adjustable bypass valve allow small incremental downstream adjustments without opening the main booster valve, while larger signal changes activate the booster for rapid actuator stroking.
The Type 6200 combines high flow capacity, a soft valve seat for tight shutoff, a standard 1/2″ NPT tapped exhaust, multiple supply and output port sizes, and broad temperature capabilities. An optional negative bias is available for applications requiring a 4 psi signal offset, and the Type 6100/6200 series is IEC 61508 SIL3 certified.

- Choose the Type 6200 when 316 stainless steel construction is required for enhanced corrosion resistance
- Select the Low Temperature option for operating temperatures from -62°F to 194°F (-52°C to 90°C)
- Select the Expanded Temperature option for operating temperatures from -55°F to 284°F (-48°C to 140°C)
- Select the Negative Bias option when a -4 ±1 psig bias is required
- Select the ATEX option when ATEX 2014/34/EU compliance is required
- Use the integral bypass valve to tune dynamic response for the actuator size and application

Principle of Operation
The Type 6200 operates as a 1:1 pneumatic relay between the control signal and actuator. Signal pressure acts on the booster diaphragm assembly, causing the main supply or exhaust valve to respond when the pressure difference exceeds the unit’s fixed deadband.
The integral adjustable bypass allows small signal changes to reach the actuator without opening the primary booster valve. Larger signal changes activate the main valve, allowing the Type 6200 to rapidly supply or exhaust air from the actuator. Adjusting the bypass allows the dynamic response of the booster and actuator system to be tuned for stable operation across a wide range of actuator sizes.
The principle-of-operation diagram on page 2 of the specification sheet identifies the supply, signal, atmosphere, and output flow paths through the booster.
