Description

Overview

The Type 550X Miniature I/P and E/P Transducer is an electronic pressure regulator that converts a variable current or voltage signal into a proportional pneumatic output pressure. Its compact housing, accessible ports, and external zero and span adjustments make it well suited for space-constrained installations and high-density mounting.

An integral volume booster provides the flow capacity needed to improve control speed in critical applications. The Type 550X delivers precision air pressure regulation to actuators, control valves, positioners, dampers, cylinders, and other final control elements.

Multiple electrical connection, mounting, porting, output-range, and hazardous-area options simplify integration into industrial control systems. Standard, high-output, and zero-based versions are available, with pneumatic outputs ranging from 0-30 psig through 3-120 psig.

The Type 550X uses a force-balance operating principle. The electrical input moves a coil and flexure assembly toward the nozzle, creating backpressure that acts as the pilot signal to an integral booster relay. This produces an accurate, proportional change in pneumatic output pressure.

How to Select the Right Configuration

Selecting the correct Type 550X configuration depends on the available electrical signal, required pneumatic output, flow demand, mounting method, electrical connection, enclosure, and hazardous-area requirements.

  • Select 4-20 mA for standard current-to-pressure control applications.
  • Select 0-5 VDC, 1-5 VDC, 1-9 VDC, or 0-10 VDC for voltage-to-pressure applications.
  • Choose a standard-range model for 3-15 psig, 3-27 psig, or 6-30 psig output.
  • Choose a high-output model for 2-60 psig or 3-120 psig output.
  • Choose a zero-based model when the application requires a true 0 psig output.
  • Select a conduit connection for NEMA 4X/IP65 enclosure protection.
  • Select a terminal block for easy direct wiring in protected installations.
  • Select a DIN 43650 connector for a detachable industrial electrical connection.
  • Select an M12 connector for compact machine and automation wiring where agency approvals are not required.
  • Choose wall, panel, pipe, or DIN rail mounting based on available installation space.
  • Use the Type 925 manifold when multiple Type 550X units require a common air supply and individual shutoff valves.
  • Select the ATEX option only with a 4-20 mA input.
  • Verify that supply pressure is sufficient for the selected output range.
