Description
Overview
The Type 6000 Volume Booster is a high-flow, one-to-one signal-to-output relay designed to increase the stroking speed of pneumatic control valves when used with a valve positioner and actuator. By delivering a high volume of air in response to larger signal changes, the Type 6000 helps improve actuator response while maintaining accurate throttling control.
An integral adjustable bypass valve allows the booster response to be tuned to the requirements of the application. Large signal changes can produce high-volume, fast actuator movement, while smaller signal changes are dampened to help prevent overshoot or overdamping. For on/off control valve applications, the bypass can be closed to maximize stroking speed.
With flow capacity up to 300 scfm, 1/2″ or 3/4″ NPT supply and output ports, and a choice of aluminum or 316 stainless steel construction, the Type 6000 provides a rugged solution for demanding control valve and actuator applications.

How to Select the Right Configuration
Selecting the correct Type 6000 configuration depends on the required port size, construction material, operating temperature, environmental requirements, and actuator flow requirements.
- Select the 1/2″ NPT model for applications requiring a forward Cv of 6.6
- Select the 3/4″ NPT model for applications requiring a forward Cv of 6.8
- Choose aluminum construction for general industrial pneumatic applications where lower weight is preferred
- Choose 316 stainless steel construction for applications requiring increased corrosion resistance
- Select the standard elastomer configuration for temperatures from -40°F to 160°F
- Select the EPDM Elastomer option for applications requiring temperatures up to 230°F
- Select the Silicone Elastomer option for applications requiring temperatures from -61°F to 230°F
- Select the ATEX option when ATEX 2014/34/EU compliance is required
- Use the adjustable bypass valve to tune booster response and minimize actuator overshoot or overdamping
- Close the bypass when maximum stroking speed is desired in appropriate on/off control valve applications

Principle of Operation
The Type 6000 operates as a one-to-one signal-to-output relay between a valve positioner and pneumatic actuator. A pneumatic signal from the positioner controls the booster, allowing a substantially larger volume of supply air to flow to or exhaust from the actuator while maintaining the relationship between signal and output pressure.
The integral bypass valve allows smaller signal changes to pass directly between the positioner and actuator, helping maintain stable throttling control. Larger signal changes activate the booster to provide the increased air volume required for rapid actuator movement. The principle-of-operation diagram on page 2 of the specification sheet illustrates the Type 6000 installed between the valve positioner and actuator.
