Description

Overview

The ControlAir Type 2000 CA2005/CA2010/CA2011 Electro-Pneumatic Valve Positioners provide stable and accurate positioning of rotary and linear control valves. These models accept a standard 4-20 mA electrical input signal and provide pneumatic output to the valve actuator, making them well suited for integration with modern process control and industrial automation systems.

The Type 2000 uses a force-balanced operating principle and is designed for simple calibration, maintenance, and field upgrades. A high-gain pilot valve provides quick and accurate valve and actuator response, while external zero adjustment simplifies calibration. The positioner is also designed to be insensitive to vibration, position, and shock, supporting dependable performance in demanding industrial environments.

The CA2005, CA2010, and CA2011 share the same core electro-pneumatic performance platform but provide different approval configurations. The CA2005 is the standard electro-pneumatic model, while the CA2010 provides FM/CSA intrinsically safe approvals and the CA2011 provides ATEX intrinsically safe approval. Both rotary and linear configurations are available.

The Type 2000 specification sheet identifies the CA2005, CA2010, and CA2011 as electro-pneumatic models and shows both rotary and linear configurations for this group.

Performance Characteristics

The CA2005/CA2010/CA2011 convert a standard 4-20 mA electrical control signal into pneumatic actuator control while continuously positioning the valve according to the commanded signal. The high-gain pilot valve provides the airflow needed for quick actuator response while the force-balanced design supports accurate and repeatable positioning.

These electro-pneumatic models provide a published linearity error of less than 1.0% of full scale, hysteresis of less than 0.6% of full scale, and repeatability of less than 0.5% of full scale. Supply pressure can range from 21.8 to 145 psig (1.5 to 10 bar).

The flow performance increases with available supply pressure, reaching 47.1 SCFM (1,333 Nl/min) at 145 psig. This combination of positioning accuracy and pneumatic flow capacity allows the Type 2000 to provide responsive control across a range of valve and actuator applications.

How to Select the Right Configuration

Selecting the correct CA2005, CA2010, or CA2011 begins with determining the required safety approval, followed by valve motion, mounting requirements, and any desired position feedback or indication options.

Select the Appropriate Model

  • CA2005: Select for standard electro-pneumatic applications where an intrinsically safe hazardous-area approval is not required.
  • CA2010: Select for applications requiring FM/CSA intrinsically safe approval.
  • CA2011: Select for applications requiring ATEX intrinsically safe approval.

The CA2010 is FM/CSA Intrinsically Safe for Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, and D and Nonincendive for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D. The CA2011 carries ATEX Intrinsically Safe approval: II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4/T5/T6.

Select Rotary or Linear Configuration

The CA2005, CA2010, and CA2011 are available for both rotary and linear valve positioning. Select the appropriate configuration according to the valve and actuator assembly. Rotary versions include a standard pointed position indicator, while linear versions use a standard blank cover.

Consider Position Feedback and Indication

Optional 4-20 mA position feedback or mechanical switches can be added when remote valve-position indication is required. An optional raised beacon is also available for enhanced local visual indication.
